Additional content for Victoria 2: Heart of Darkness

1815: The Concert of Europe Mod is a free-to-use game utility, created by AETERNVM for the real-time strategy hit Victoria 2: Heart of Darkness. This add-on content begins in the titular year, 1815, which was a turning point in European history. With a new starting date and a completely reworked map to reflect the boundaries of the time.

With a large number of new historical events, modified game mechanics, and cultures to interact with, 1815: The Concert of Europe Mod is a must-try.  You can also check out the Age of Enlightenment or the Victoria Universalis Mod for other historical periods.

Relive the aftermath of Waterloo

1815: The Concert of Europe Mod starts on Nov. 20, 1815, known as the day when the 1815 Treaty of Paris was signed. This agreement between France and the alliance of multiple countries had far-reaching effects. In the mod, you get to see an updated map of Europe showing the territories at the time, letting you start immersively charting your own course from this jump-off point.

To better capture the feel, this mod also reworks the population migration system to better reflect the movement of people as a result of various in-game events. The population data available in the campaigns are also patterned off the available census data from that time period. Knowing this effort from the developers adds realism, a selling point for historical grand strategy games.

Of course, with a mod of this scale, there are some aspects that are not as well-polished as the rest. For example, its focus on Europe means that other continents like South America are not as extensively recreated. The War for Brazilian Independence is one such example. It also limits the possibilities players can explore with the recently deposed Napoleon Bonaparte.

A massive Eurocentric mod

It’s fair to say that 1815: The Concert of Europe Mod is a great custom content in terms of accuracy and scale, although this is limited from the European vantage point. By presenting you with a world right after the 1815 Treaty of Paris, you get to experience it and steer history as you see fit. Unfortunately, all this accuracy doesn’t translate well to other parts of the in-game world.

PROS

  • Features a time-accurate map
  • Reworks the game's population migration system

CONS

  • Events on other continents are not as well-developed
  • Lacks a follow-through on Napoleon
